On October 21st took place in Lamantin, Guadeloupe, the inauguration of the new line of treatment facilities from Waste, Electrical and Electronics, attended by the french Minister of Overseas, Mrs. Ericka Bareigts.

Were present at the inauguration, the mayor of Lamantin, Mr Jocelyn Sapotille, Mr Victorin Lurel, Member of Parliament, Ludovic Fiers, general manager of the AER-Ecodec companies and Alain Mallart, chairman of Energipole Group.

By visiting the Lamenting platform after its inauguration, the Minister understood the full meaning of the vision of Ludovic Fiers, CEO of AER-Ecodec companies, subsidiary of the Energipole Group. For three years, he led discussions to convince his partners: Region, ADEME (Agency for Environment and Energy Management) and communities of the benefits of the waste treatment sector in the Caribbean. A few minutes earlier, he spoke about the genesis of the project, started in 2008 with AER, handling vehicles recycling.

« We now recycle on site D3E from Saint Barthelemy, Saint Martin, Martinique and Guyane » he said, recalling that after the banana and rum, waste is the 3rd strongest export with 30 000 tons exported annually to Europe and with 30 direct jobs and as much indirect jobs. And it’s not over, the treatment process is with high added value, and represents an employment niche for the future. The total project cost was over 10 million euros between 2010 and 2016. « Today, I am very pleased to know that we will benefit from an aid to cargo for export. « Jocelyn Sapotille, Mayor of Lamentin, and president of the CANBT, welcomed such a union on the territory of North Basse-Terre. « We took the gamble to make this area a place of high environmental quality, he said, addressing specially to the minister. With such unity in our territory, we have the duty to be exemplary. «

Éricka Bareigts called the « flagship project », an ambitious project for the territory but which demonstrates the progress made in waste collection, treatment and innovation, although there is still much to do. A good point for the department, and an encouragement for the future. « When key players work together, efforts are producing results, » she said.
